Start in front of the tower
of Sint-John's cathedral 's-Hertogenbosch.
An art-manifestation (procession) in the city centre with
21 performers who symbolically carry light on a triangular
screen. They will send the light to shine all over to strengthen
the sun for brightness for all.
Inspiration
> Midwinter Night
December 21st is Midwinter Night. The sun will (if it
does shine) radiate for only a few hours. The night will
be very long. So light will be needed to overcome the darkness.
Various sun- and fire-dancerituals were developed to encourage
the light, the sun to return.
Folks held manifestations for days to celebrate the sun.
They treated each other with gifts unifying their community
for the future. Wood, sprinkled with wine, oil or holy water,
was burned. The saying goes that this is the history of our
current christmas-tree.
Route
The performance starts at the Torenstraat at the Sint-Jan
cathedral and goes via Kerkstraat, Markt, Pensmarkt, Visstraat,
Stationsstraat, to end at the station. At various moments
on the road there will be stops, silent moments and intensified
actions.
For example; The triangular screen floats knee high above
the ground
pulled by the 21 performers shining their light on to the
middle of the
triangle.

Tineke Goemans,
one of the assistents on the spot, helped us so we could
change kostumes at the artists initiative Nova Zembla, which
is not far from the cathedral. The participating performers
were enthousiastic and already started to perform in front
of Nova Zembla. In the picture on the left they arrived
at the cathedral and were ready to go.
The performance led to spontanious reactions from the peole
on the street doing their Chrismas shoppings. The asked:
What is this? What's it about? We answered that it is Midwinter
Night and that we are a Lightvehicle. Many shouted: "Yes,
I remember." They thought it was a nice fantasy to
help the light, the sun on it's way back
Through unforseen
circumstances the end of the performance could not take
place because we could not go to Artots Melkfabriek.
Therefore it's almost certain that this performance will
be shown again in 2006. Especially since a few performers
already signed up again for next time.
Performers 2005: Fons, Anne, Elsa, Janneke, Gerard, Sabine,
Bianca, Sylvia, Sandra, Gerard, Thea, Elfriede, Veerle,
Eric, Maria Nicolasina, Cecile, Susan, Nikki and Maria
I received some
comment from people who think it's a bit foot-loose. The
point is that it is my nature to celebrate al kind off things
which I think need to be celebrated. Even a Monday or Thursday.
I like everything I can come up with and realise together
with people. My motivation to create and organize projects
is working with people.
